Hostel

We had an excellent stay at the Highlands Hostel. Bricin and Patricia are excellent hosts. The church is beautiful, the bell tower is a one of a kind hang out spot, the jam room is incredible, and the RV outside is a funky spot to chill. They have tons of games and puzzles to enjoy.If you’re looking for a great place to stay while checking out Cape Breton, I highly recommend Highland Hostel.

Accueil très sympathique, chambre propre, bon rapport qualité / prix. Salle de vie commune spacieuse et bien équipée pour cuisiner.Bémol : chambre un peu petite, douche pas très pratique (un peu étroite, pommeau de douche fixe et le système de gestion de la température de l'eau oblige à passer par l'eau froide avant d'accéder à l'eau chaude).

Where to start? We stayed only for one night, but this hostel is one you definitely remember! Amazing welcome by the owners, very great atmosphere, the discovery of baby hockey, very well maintained. If you go to Cape North, you have to stay there (and more than one night ^^)

Nicest people on earth. I booked the all inclusif package and got alot for my money. The room was very nice except for the lack of A.C. that was felt on warm nights. Everything was clean and proper. The included meals were great, and the staff was so chill and nonchalant, we arrived too late for dinner one day and the waiter just said yeah sure no problem" so we were still able to get our meal "off hours". The tours are really cool

Best sleep, best breakfast and best shower in 2 week holiday! (This was my last nigh of 2 week holiday)

Super fun! Old school hostel with live music in the courtyard each night, bring your own drinks or enjoy the bar. Amazing hostel atmosphere and a great town! Bring cash.

This is my first time staying at a hostel and I enjoyed the experience! I stayed for 3 nights.Some positive things:- Location (beautiful beach a five minute walk away, 8 minute walk to a bus station that goes directly downtown, calm neighborhood that was usually quiet)- Safety (I felt safe in all of the area of the hostel, very friendly atmosphere, lockers for storage if you bring your own lock, left a few belongings out all day and never had anything moved/taken)- Tour offerings (Erik hosts fun tours, I did the Capilano tour for 43$ and got to see the beautiful forests, salmon fishery, and Capilano park. He sometimes told facts that were a little random, but you could tell he loves to host the tours!)Some things to work on:- Room temperature (there is no air conditioning or even fans to cool the rooms. I had a lot of trouble falling asleep the first night!)- Wifi (does not work in all areas of the hostel, including my room, which was frustrating)- Bathrooms (every morning when I went to get ready the bathrooms were closed for cleaning on my floor and I had to go downstairs. It was inconvenient and odd to me that cleaning was scheduled at a time when many people would be using the bathroom facilities)Overall it was a good experience; but it could have been amazing if there were a few tweaks/upgrades to the facility!

Very comfortable and hospitable. Beautiful spot ideally situated for touring the valley or fishing the Matapedia. Love the communal setting and getting to meet fellow guests around the big log table for meals.

LOVE, love love!! We had a blast taking one of the white water courses offered during the summer in Missinippi. Wonderful teachers, patient and SKILLED!! I will DEFINITELY recommend any of the instructors and courses to anyone who will listen!!

BEWAREWent to hostel as walk in.Said they would charge $100 deposit-cash-per night on top of nightly charge!We said no thanks, as it seemed dodgy-hostels never charge deposits, and even the Hilton only charges $75 deposit!!!So we left.However…we were charged anyways!And when I called to get my money back…as this was an illegal charge…I didn’t sign for it!The hostel hung up on me!
